Orange, Lemon, Lime and Grapefruit Trees

A citrus tree may be the ideal houseplant for a warm sunny room. Their shiny, dark green leaves and fragrant blossoms add to the appeal of their brightly colored, ornamental fruit.

Citrus trees need fast draining, fertile soil. They require 5-6 hours of sunlight. Feeding with a high-nitrogen, acid fertilizer should be done in late winter, June and August. In return for this minimal required care, you will be rewarded with continuous, year-round fragrant blooms and fruit.


Orange Trees
Calamondin Orange
The Calamondin is an upright, medium sized tree that produces a quarter-sized fruit during the months of November through April. The Juicy fruit has a tender pulp that is very acidic. The fruit can be eaten fresh or is absolutely wonderful when used in marmalades. This tree is very showy when grown in a container and used as a patio speciman. Because of its beauty and ease of maintenance, the Calamondin is a favorites. It's also handsomely compact and hardy, which makes it an excellent indoor-outdoor specimen.

Calamondins are great on the patio and outdoor balcony until summer has mostly faded. They should be brought indoors before winter, so that the small white blooms infuse the air with their heavenly aroma. Calamondin fruit holds very well on the tree, making this variety a long-lasting ornamental. The juicy acidic fruit is no larger than a half-dollar and is best used as a lemon substitute on fish and chicken. A kumquat hybrid, the Calamondin originated in China.
Washington Naval Orange
This famous winter-ripening naval orange is a high quality seedless fruit of excellent flavor. The fruit ripens August and will hang on the tree for months. You will pick sweet, juicy oranges almost the year through. Seedless, easy to peel, seprates into segments. Also good for fresh squeezed juice in winter.

Lane Late Naval Orange
Thee Lane Late Naval orange with it's versatile size, fragrant flowers and delicious fruit makes this the ideal plant for container growing. Easily peeled and seedlesss, this ornage matures to its full color later than Washingon Navel. Handsome foliage and small scale is perfect for a background shrub in landscapes and even better adapted to roomy containers. Evergreen shrub or small tree. Full sun. Moderate growth to just 6 to 8 feet tall and as wide. Spring/summer ripening seedless Navel Orange with fine, rich flavor.

Lemon Trees
Pink Lemonade
The variegated Pink Lemonade tree makes an attractive potted plant. The fruit is produced during the months of June through September. The fruit has pink flesh, with green and yellow striped skin. This pink lemon is used to make real pink lemonade!
Eureka Lemon
This tree produces an abundance of fine, market quality lemons nearly year round. The fruit is juicy with a few seeds. The Eureka Lemon makes an attractive potted landscape specimen with bronzy-purple new growth. It is a moderate grower. Home made lemonade is right around the corner.


Meyer Lemon
The Meyer Lemon is a small tree with continuous crops. It is the most popular lemon for the home garden. Fruits heavily year after year. Thin-skinned, smooth, bright golden fruit throughout the year. Hardiest of all lemons.
Lime Trees
Mexican Lime
The tree yields good crops of deep-orange easy peel fruits but very sour. This variety is the most tender citrus. Fruit is small with many seeds. It has a strong lime flavor and very juicy.
The Mexican lime tree is exceedingly vigorous with many slender, spreading branches. The evergreen, alternate leaves are pleasantly aromatic. The fruit is round or slightly elliptical. The pulp is aromatic, juicy, very acid and flavorful.


Grapefruit Trees
Star Ruby Red Grapefruit
Star Ruby surpasses the pinks in colour, flavour and reliability. Red grapefruit plants grow into medium-sized trees from 10-13' tall. The fruit looks like ordinary grapefruit, except the rind is thicker and ripens with a red hue. The red juice has a sweet flavour with just a hint of tartness, and it is very nutritious. One half of an average-sized red grapefruit provides 80% of the recommended daily dose of vitamin C and some important anti-oxidants.
